Hi Everyone,
I know a lot of you are wondering how the documentary is coming, so here is an update.
I currently have about 90% of the interviews shot (about 11 all together). There is still one main interview and two or three smaller ones that I would like to get within the next month. I also have shot a lot of b-roll of the old Jurko Farm and some of Yankee Lake (the Inn, Store and Ballroom). I still need to get some interior shots of the Inn and Ballroom, and maybe some more footage of the d**n, but I am geting close to completing the shooting phase of production.
On another note, I have been transcribing all of the interviews that I shot. This way I will have a paper version of everything that was said. Trust me, it will help a ton when it comes to laying out the story and rough edit of the film. I have completed the transcription of two interviews so far. It takes me about 1 hour, give or take, to type about 15 minutes of footage. I'm slowly getting faster, and I hope to have all of the interviews transcribed by the Holidays. It's a slow process, but I make sure to put in a couple of hours each day.
I also have a lot of great photos that I still need to put on the website. There is one that I got from Joe Tarkanic of the dam in the winter, with all of the water frozen in great crystals of ice. So I will be sure to update the site soon.
Within the next month or two I am planning on putting together a short movie preview, so that everyone can see what I have been working on so far. This I will also post on the site, along with a treatment for the film. This will give a nice written history of Yankee Lake in a story form. I can't wait. Everything is coming together, but it just takes time when you're a one-man crew.
Please if you have any pictures, information, or stories that would be relevant to this project, let me know. I have had so much help already, but I know that there are still great photos out there that I have yet to see. So if you even think you have any, please, please go dig them out now and contact me. I'm getting close to the editing stage, and if you wait too long it may be too late for me to include them. I am giving everyone a special thanks credit in the film that contributes in any way to the preservation of the history of Yankee Lake.
I hope that you all have enjoyed this website so far. There is more to come soon, and don't forget that the whole reason for this website is to promote the feature length documentary "Yankee Lake: The History and The Legend". I'm working on it almost every day of every week to get it done as soon as possible. But I am not willing to speed up the process if it will compromise the quality of the finished film. Thank you all for your support. And if there is anyway that you think you can help, please let me know. This film could not be made without you.
Thanks,
John A. Jurko II
