Paul Jurko once told me that is Father John Jurko built the Ballroom at his request. As the stories goes, there were lots of people out of work in the area during the 20's and the Jurko's traded food for labor because at the time the Jurko's owned something like 6 farms in the area. As I heard it no one was paid in cash for their labor to build the dance hall, just food for them and their families. Someone once told me that the roof of the ballroom was made of copper because it was the only metal available since everything in those days was going towards the war effort. I have my doubts on this one, but you never know. I also heard from a very good source that the big bands that use to come and play loved the home cooking at the Inn and would stay around for several weeks after thier engagement to drink with the Jurko's and enjoy the home cooking. Back then their were cabins or cottages on the South end of the Lake that the Jurko's owned and the bands stayed at them when they played at the ballroom.
